Hold it! Hold it one second you whipper-snappers! I remember these too all too well, and boy did I get an ear full from my mother about that "Like mother, like daughter"... Good thing I have never done all the things she used to!
I have been in pursuit of an old PSA about "hate". it was only about 10 seconds long, maybe 15, and the only reason I want it is because the commercial itself scared the daylights out of me as a kid. It was animated, with a figure of a guy walking toward you, and the closer he got, the angrier and the more red and distorted his face got... and all the narrator said was, "Do you know who hate hurts? Hate hurts YOU!" and the second he said "YOU!" the guy exploded!
I'm wanting to see this again to see what frightened me so much. I mean, I would close my eyes and plug my ears until it was over, it scared me so bad!

Thank you! It is the same video, but different audio. This did have a guy with a really deep voice doing the narration, and scared the living cheese out of me when he yelled, "Hate hurts YOU!" It's weird how I could search for days and find nothing. So, my hat is off to you! (if I actually wore a hat, which I don't because hats look stupid on me).

Kind of right. I remember it well. It was sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It said "and when you hate, who do you hurt the most? Hate hurts you."

It had the same affect on me as well. I actually never saw the little guy explode at the end because I could never watch the whole thing. The theme started with a really distinctive percussion using a Cabaça & as soon as I heard it, with eyes shut & fingers in ears I ran out of the room. To this day I get a Pavlovian chill down my spine upon hearing a Cabaça used in a similar way.

I remember this commercial vividly & have looked for it off & on for a few years - can't find it online "When you hate who do you hurt the most? It's acid that erodes. Hate hurts you hate hurts you! the little angry guy was wearing cowboy boots - I was actually looking for the commercial when I found your post

I ran cross this old thread while looking for the commercial. I've been looking for it for years, too; never found it. It scared the HELL out of my when I was a kid. The "rap" went something like, "Hate! A [something] that explodes. An acid that erodes. 'Cause when you HATE! Who do you hurt the most? Hate hurts you! Hate hurts YOU!" I seem to recall that it was a heart with a scary face and legs and arms walking towards the camera. Am I remembering that correctly? Could it have been an American Heart Association PSA?
The only commercial I can think of that scared me anywhere near that badly when I was a kid was the "Beyond the Door" TV spot.

This commercial used to give me nightmares as well. Naturally I'd run into my parent's room for comfort. Thing is, they'd have the TV on, and of course that commercial would never fail to appear. And it happened so fast that there was no time to turn it off. But I, too, want to see it again, now that I've seen movies like "Scanners" and the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series, just to see how it would affect me nowadays.

Oh yessss. That old psa still terrifies me as an adult. It would often appear during afternoon cartoons and like other posters it would make me run from the room in tears. I believe he was a cowboy like figure with a hat perched on his swelling head, the little swirly thing in his belly and he wore upturned boots. As he marched towards the audience the jingle went something like, "Hate. An acid that corrodes...that's why hate. Hate hurts you!"
Makes me weep to recall it.

Oh my god, someone besides me remembers this!! I honestly thought I was the only one. I remember the last line as, "Hate: the one it hurts the most is YOU." But definitely the guy exploded at the end. One night it came on TV when my brother and I were kids and we both ran from the room crying. I was scared to watch that channel again for fear I'd see it. As I recall, I only saw it the one time, but it still gives me chills to think about. As I recall, it was made by the Latter Day Saints. How can we find it?! I'm obsessed!
